bullet Explore Some Commonly Asked Questions About Thermal Energy Efficient Replacement Windows Below:

Q. What is the difference between Thermal Replacement Windows and ordinary windows?
A. Ordinary traditional windows have a single pane of glass and allow heat to escape during cold weather and cold to escape during hot weather. This can skyrocket your fuel costs. Many ordinary windows also require painting a laborious and costly maintenance chore. Thermal Replacement Windows are made with double or triple paned glass. These extra panels of glass are much more energy efficient, particularly when they are custom fitted to assure a tight seal where little or no air can escape. Most Thermal Replacement Windows do not require painting.

Q. What cost savings can I expect from custom fitted Thermal Replacement Windows?
A. Approximately 40% of your heating and cooling bill is related to air leaking around windows and doors. Because Thermal Replacement Windows are two to four times more efficient than ordinary windows, you can expect a savings of 20 - 30% in your heating and cooling costs. The money you save on fuel bills can more than pay for your Thermal Replacement Windows in a very short time.

Q. Why shouldn’t I shop for the best price in Thermal Replacement Windows?
A. Although you may find some attractive pricing on Thermal Replacement Windows at your local home center store in the Boston area, you may be compromising quality and energy saving results. Most bargain priced windows are not well built and will need to be replaced much sooner. Second, it is difficult to get a professional to install your thermal replacement windows you buy from a home center. Third, you want the window to be exactly the right size for your windows opening otherwise it will be a very drafty smaller view window. A short on all four sides will make for a VERY drafty window. Failure to install windows to plumb and square standards with appropriate installation is very likely to reduce or eliminate all the energy cost saving value.

Q. How can you determine the quality of a particular brand of Thermal Replacement Windows?
A. Windows are rated based on the NFRC rating system. The lower the rating number, the better the quality of the window. Windows with a low NFRC rating are better built and incorporate more energy saving features. Every manufacturer must display their NFRC rating sticker on their windows. Mastercraft custom warm replacement windows have the some of the highest ratings available. During our free no obligation appointment to determine your quote on window installation, we show you how we compare and why we are your very best choice.

Q. What do Low-E glass, Argon Gas and Krypton Gas have to do with Thermal Replacement Windows?
A. Low-E glass is normal looking glass with a coating that provides better insulation and blocks certain types of light. Argon gas and Krypton gas are good insulators that can be used to fill the space between panes of glass in Thermal Replacement Windows. In the Boston Area but for the Northeast as a whole, no window should be purchased unless it contains Low-E glass and either argon or krypton gas. These will certify that the windows are warm by Energy Star. Although the cost is higher, the homeowner will be eligible for a government rebate which will cover the additional costs.

Q. Are Thermal Replacement Windows maintenance free?
A. No windows are completely maintenance-free but Thermal Replacement Windows are the next best thing. Thermal Replacement Windows can be made of wood, vinyl or a wood and vinyl combination. Vinyl windows require the least maintenance with no painting required inside or out.

Q. Is Thermal Replacement Windows a good investment?
A. There are so many reasons to invest in Thermal Replacement Windows. New windows greatly add to the beauty and value of your home. The energy savings, government rebates, maintenance savings and increase in your comfort make Thermal Replacement Windows an affordable investment and one well worth doing. Many homeowners make convenient low monthly payments, borrowing from a home equity line of credit. This allows them to take advantage of additional tax savings and get years of enjoyment from beautiful energy efficient windows.

Q. Are there federal government and other programs that provide rebates for thermal replacement windows?
A. The government has a tax credit available for each qualifying household up to a $1500 tax credit on the purchase of energy star rated windows offered by MasterCraft. Local utility companies such as gas and electric also offer rebates of $10 per window with a maximum of $500 which is over and above the federal rebate. There may be other rebates and special offers from the partners of ENERGY STAR.

Q. What can I expect from my window replacement project?
A. Installation of Thermal Replacement Windows for an entire home in the Boston Area and South Shore of Massachusetts is often completed in a day or two with very little disruption to your life and home. Q. Does Mastercraft custom fit warm replacement windows offer any other savings?
A. Yes! The Energy Policy Act of 2005 that allowed consumers to receive a federal tax credit for energy efficient improvements made on their home in 2006, 2007 has now been extended to 2010 as a part of the recent Economic Stimulus bill that was signed into law by President Obama.

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed a stimulus bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) that made some significant changes to the energy efficiency tax credits. The highlights are:

  • The tax credit has been raised from 10% to 30%
  • The tax credits that were for a specific dollar amount have been converted to 30% of the cost.
  •  The maximum credit has been raised from $500 to $1500 for the two years (2009 2010). However, some improvements such solar water heaters and panels are not subject to the $1,500 maximum.
  •  The $200 cap on windows has been removed.

Dedham MA Customer Gives MasterCraft Rave Reviews on Window and Door Project
Michael C, City: Dedham, MA
Comments: they were very professional, they promptly came for an estimate, it was complex because the outside of house was aluminum siding and inside was a wooden wall so getting both inside and outside to match and look good was a difficulty task and they did a great job. Left both the inside and outside spotless..like they were never there. If another project comes up will use them again!
